KANUNGU: Minister Baryomusi Supporters set Opponents Campaign Reflectors Ablaze

Boda Boda men in Kanungu burning some of the reflector jackets given them to by Engineer Arineitwe Sam Kajojo

Supporters of Chris Baryomusi, the Minister of Information, Communication Technology, and National Guidance, who is also the Kinkiizi East Member of Parliament, have set ablaze Engineer Arineitwe Sam Kajojo’s campaign reflectors, an opponent in the forthcoming elections.

Eng Kajojo, who is the Kanungu District chairperson, is alleged to aspire for the Kinkizi East Member of Parliament seat in the 2026 elections on the Patriotic League Uganda ticket, against Baryomunsi.

While speaking to Nexus Media on July 2, 2024, local security in Kanungu said that during a church service on June 30, 2024, Eng Kajojo mobilized boda boda men, gave them campaign reflector jackets and Ugx 5000 each.

“He gave them reflector jackets, about 50 in number, and added them Ugx 5,000 each. However, a particular group complained that Ugx 5,000 was too little. They contacted Minister Baryomunsi’s agents, and it is reported that extra money was sent to the boda men, prompting them to denounce Kajojo and burning some of the reflector jackets he gave them,” local security noted.

Local security said that the incident was unpleasant to many, with some criticizing the minister’s team campaign strategy.

According to the reporter, locals have requested that Baryomunsi’s team use good methods in seeking votes so as not to leave people dead, in fear, and disorganized.

“Some of his campaign managers have been seen celebrating, worrying people that there could be something else going to be done,” security added.

According to a publication, on April 20, 2024, Baryomusi said Kajojo has failed to serve the people of Kanungu as LC5 chairperson, and therefore he will not be able to serve them as an MP.
