The UPDF Military Police Brigade, working alongside the Uganda Police Force, has deployed snap checkpoints across the Kampala Metropolitan Area to enforce traffic regulations and curb road-related criminal activities.
Col. Chris Magezi, the acting Defence Spokesperson said the operation, which began Monday, 9 March 2026, targets unregistered and numberless vehicles, illegal use of sirens, reckless driving, and other violations that compromise road safety.
He says the campaign will continue for as long as necessary to restore order and discipline on the city’s roads.
The Military Police and Uganda Police have dismissed claims suggesting the checkpoints target Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine).
“No one is looking for or interested in the NUP leader. The focus is strictly on enforcing traffic laws and improving road safety,” said Col Magezi.
He stressed that these measures are not new, having been used previously to curb criminal behavior on the roads.
Motorists, including motorcycle riders, are urged to cooperate fully with law enforcement and carry proper documentation while navigating the checkpoints.
