Gov’t set to hold the 13th Mineral Wealth Conference to Harness the Use of Minerals for Economic Development

The government, through the Ministry for Energy and Mineral Development, is set to hold the 13th mineral wealth conference scheduled to take place from October 1st–2nd, 2024, at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

The State Minister for Energy and Mineral Development, Phiona Nyamutoro, who will preside over the conference, said it will attract over 250 participants from Uganda, East Africa, and beyond.

“This conference will be a critical platform to explore the future of Uganda’s mineral wealth, foster investment opportunities, and discuss strategies to harness the potential of critical minerals for sustainable development,” Nyamatoro said.

Nyamutooro urged different stakeholders to embrace the conference as it will deliver a robust program featuring diverse initiatives, activities, onsite supplier development engagements, and presentations from global and local expert speakers.

According a statement by the ministry, topics such as mineral sector governance and regulation, licensing in Uganda’s extractive sector, climate change and the extractives sector, critical minerals for sustainable development, investment opportunities in Uganda and the region, value addition and beatification, financing the extractives sector, diversity, equity, and inclusion in extractives, to mention but a few, will be discussed.

The statement elaborated that the conference is also expected to provide a unique platform for stakeholders involved in minerals to engage in high-level discussions, networking, and business-to-business meetings, ultimately promoting opportunities in the sourcing and development of critical minerals.

“This is a platform that brings together key decision-makers representing organizations and businesses that are fully dedicated to the development of the mining industry,” the statement said.

The 13th Mineral Wealth Conference will be held under the theme “Leveraging critical minerals for sustainable development and economic transformation.
