The government has banned the purchase of vehicles for government officials and traveling abroad by the officials in the next financial year of 2023–2024.
This was announced on Thursday, June 15, 2023, by the Finance Minister Matia Kasaija while delivering the National budget at Kololo Independence Grounds.
Minister Kasaija said that, this is part of the wider government’s efforts to reduce high expenditures of taxpayers’ money.
According to Kasaija, the government will only allow the purchase of new vehicles for certain sectors, including health (ambulance, security, among others).
Minister Kasaija further noted that the government has also banned travels abroad by public officials except for certain functions.
“No purchase of new vehicles for government officials except ambulances and security vehicles, among others. Travel abroad is limited, except for certain functions,” said Minister Kasaija.
Last week, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, while presenting the 2023 State of the Nation Address in Parliament held at Kololo Independence Grounds, noted that the government intends to focus more on the reduction of public expenditures in the coming financial year.
