Four Arraigned in Court for Extorting PDM Beneficiaries in Fort Portal

The Anti-Corruption Unit, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CIM) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), has arraigned two town agents and two Parish Development Model (PDM) SACCO leaders before the Chief Magistrates Court in Fort Portal on charges related to extortion of money from several members of different SACCOs and enterprise groups.

This development was confirmed by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit Uganda on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, on the official X handle.

According to the authorities, the two town agents are identified as Esther Kobusingye, the town agent for Kibasi ward, Kibasi town council, and Godfrey Busingye, the town agent for Kinyererezi ward in Kijura town council.

The other PDM SACCO leaders are Fred Amanyire, the Chairperson of Kabedde Ward PDM SACCO, and Robert Mugabe, the Vice Chairperson of Kibedde Ward PDM SACCO, all from Kabarole district.

“The accused fraudulently obtained money from several PDM beneficiaries from the villages of Harubaho and Kyamuhoro in Kibasi Town Council and Nyansozi village in Mugusu Town Council between the months of November 2023 and September 2024, claiming it was a prerequisite for processing their funds whereas not,” the unit stated.

The court remanded the accused until October 14, 2024.
