The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party based in Najjanankumbi has considered fronting Rosemary Alwoc Ogwal as a party flag bearer in the upcoming by-elections for Dokolo Woman Member of Parliament, a seat that fell vacant after the demise of Cecilia Barbara Ogwal Atat in January 2024.

According to John Kikonyogo, the FDC party Spokesperson, it is wise for Alwoc to replace her mother to finish the unfinished work in Dokolo, as backed by family members and some party leaders.

“As I talk now, only the family of the late Cecillia Owgwal has come to approach us about endorsing the deceased’s daughter. Nobody else has come to us. And in case another person comes, we shall have to sit them down and come to a consensus, or we shall go in for internal primaries,” Kikonyogo said.

He made remarks during the press conference held at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi on Monday, February 5, 2024.

The party’s decision was reached after an indoor meeting between the deceased’s family and top party leaders, including party President Patrick Oboi Amuriat and Toterebuka Bamwenda, among others.

The Chairperson of the FDC Electoral Commission, Toterebuka Bamwenda, said that he does not see any trouble for Ogwal to contest for the seat since she was a party member even before the demise of her mother.

While speaking to the media minutes after the indoor meeting, Alwoc, who dodged answering questions, stated that the party would soon communicate the details of the resolutions of the meeting, stating that they are still discussing some issues.

“I am currently in discussion with FDC. You will soon be informed by the party. That is what I can say for now,” Alwoc said.

Meanwhile, there have been mixed reactions in the public domain concerning Alwoc’s decision to replace her mother. The Electoral Commission will soon release the electoral roadmap for the Dokolo by-elections.
