FDC NEC fires MP Ssemujju as Party Chief Whip in Parliament

Yusuf Nsibambi, the new FDC Party Chief Whip in Parliament

The National Executive Committee of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change party has removed Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda as the party whip in Parliament.

This was held during the NEC delegates conference held on Friday, October 6, 2023, at Lugogo in Kampala and was chaired by Dr. Frank Nabwiso, the party national chairman.

Dr. Nabwiso said a total of 956 members voted in favor of removing MP Ssemujju and endorsed Yusuf Nsibambi as the new FDC chief whip in Parliament. Eight members voted against the decision, while nine abstained from the election.

MP Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the FDC Secretary General, says he will draft a letter to parliament to inform the office of the Speaker of Parliament about the decisions to replace Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda.

“Last time I wrote to the speaker of Parliament, asking that Yusuf Nsibambi replace Ssemujju and Frances Mwijuke. A few members ran to the speaker and blocked it, claiming NEC didn’t approve. Now here today, let the delegates endorse,” said Nandala.

Efforts to speak to MP Ssemujju about the development was futile at the time we went to press.
