Kirya, who was addressing the media at the party headquarters on Tuesday February, 25, 2025 at Balintuma road in Rubaga-Kampala, argued that even with a search warrant, the security agencies ought to have done a search in the presence of party leaders or custodians.

According to him, the security should have requested a dialogue with the leaders of the party on any issue which would have been handled amicably.

“They should have called party leaders and not just breaking the doors and not doing it in their absence and take property,” Kirya said.

Kirya asked the Inspector general of Police to explain why the officers who carried out the operation were fully masked and avoided Identification by the people around if what they were doing was legal.

“Let IGP Byakagaba explain why police officers doing a legal search don’t want to be identified by the public? Why do officers carry guns while putting on plain clothes, how are we going to differentiate the police from the goons?” Kirya questioned.

NUP party secretary general Lewis Rubongoya, yesterday, Monday February, 24, 2025 confirmed to the public that police forcefully broke into their party premises both at Makerere Kavule and at Kamwokya and destroyed property, took over 44 million Uganda shs, computers, electronics , party uniforms and other properties.
