CENSUS: UPDF Officers Urged to Provide Correct Information to Enumerators for Proper National Planning

Major Charles Mukhama Wasirwa, the 3rd Division Political Commissar of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), also doubling as the census exercise supervisor, has urged the UPDF officers to provide correct information to the enumerators during the census exercise as this will ensure proper national planning.

Maj Wasirwa made the remarks on May 10, 2024, and urged the troops on the relevance of giving correct information to enumerators during the exercise.

“I urge you to provide correct information, as it will form a credible data base for national planning and policy formulation,” Wasirwa said.

Major Wasirwa, noted that the exercise rolled out in all battalions, barracks, and detaches across the region.

Maj Isaac Oware, the UPDF Public Information Officer 3rd Division, said that the National Housing and Population Census (NHPC) exercise kicked off with a remarkable progress in formations and units under UPDF 3rd Division area of responsibility in the greater Eastern Uganda.

According to Maj Oware, Brigade Census supervisors, including Major James Otai and Major Francis Eyabu for 403 and 407 Infantry Brigades, respectively registered good kick off.

He added that Soroti Air Force Wing (SAFW), School of Artillery And Air Defence (SAAD) for troops in Teso Sub region and 405 Infantry Brigade which takes charge of North Karamoja reported good beginning.

Capt Fredrick Mwondha, the Census supervisor at Rubongi cantonment in Tororo district, stated that the exercise had a good kick-start after soldiers’ families embracing it, adding that he’s optimistic that his team will be able to enumerate troops in Bugema and Military barracks in Mbale city in the subsequent days.

The sixth National Population and Housing Census exercise, which commenced on May 10, 2024, and will be carried out for 10 days, is being conducted under the theme It matters to be counted, and the UPDF is in support of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS).
