President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and also the Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) is expected to visit Oyam North constituency next week on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 ahead of the by-election.

This was revealed on Thursday, June 29, 2023, by the Government Chief Whip, MP Denis Hamson Obua at the burial of late Yerobwam Okello, the father of former Member of Parliament (MP) for Oyam South, Isha Otto Amiza, at Tegacia Village, Agulurude Parish in Loro Sub County.

Obua said that President Museveni will be in Oyam North next week to render his support to the NRM flag bearer Okello Engola.

“In the morning when I was coming, it was confirmed that President will come to Oyam North on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, and that is why we’re preparing roads for his visit,” Obua said.

President Museveni is expected to campaign for NRM flag bearer for Oyam North Constituency by-election, Samuel Engola Okello, the son of the late Minister Col. Charles Okello Engola Macodwogo who was shot by his bodyguard at his home in Kyanja last month.

According to local authorities, Obua and some other prominent NRM leaders are in Oyam North already campaigning for Engola Junior.

Amongst those who are campaigning for Engola Junior are, MP Tonny Ayo from Kwania, Andrew Ojok Oulanya-MP Omoro County, Betty Engola-Woman MP Apac district and some NRM supporters from Lora city, according to authorities.

However, Uganda Peoples’ Congress (UPC) party President, Jimmy Akena Obote is also in Oyam North to help UPC flag bearer Dr. Eunice Otuko Opio in her campaigns.

Reports from Oyam specify that currently, that National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Daniel Okello is also being supported by Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu aka chairman Nyanzi while the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate, Newton Freddy Okello is being helped by MP Moses Okot Bitek.

Reports also show that, at the beginning of the week, FDC party President Patrick Amuriat Oboi was in Oyam North.

It is only seven days left to the by-election of Oyam North constituency but the ground is becoming competitive fit for all the four candidates.

The Oyam North constituency seat fell vacant after the Minister Col. Charles Engola was murdered at his home in Kyanja, a Kampala suburb by his body guard on May 2, 2023.
