BOU plants 1040 trees at Soroti University Under Go Green Campaign

Bank of Uganda (BOU,) has planted 1040 trees at Soroti University, aimed at institutionalizing the Environment, Social and Good governance ( ESG) principles for a sustainable financial sector.

On Thursday September 28, 2023, Charles Mugisha the Chief Accountant of BOU, lead the team by  rolling up his sleeves to plant trees at Soroti University, saying Soroti University is one of the branches of the ESG initiative.

“This is just one of the branch of the ESG initiative, as we strive to be the  Central Bank promoting sustainability in Uganda,” said Mugisha.

He noted that the initiative is characterized by business models that foster economic growth and development, while ensuring that the environment is not harmed. This is done by operating in the environment as well as protecting it.

“As Bank of Uganda we are not just about finances, we are also interested in the beautiful future of our country. Let’s grow a greener and more sustainable Uganda together,” said Mugisha.

Bank of Uganda in 2022 contributed Ugx 10 million towards the youth campaign initiative  of having 1 million trees planted by end of 2023, in Uganda.
