UPDF to Retire Over 236 Junior, NCOs from 4th Infantry Division

The Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF), Brigadier General Felix Busizoori, Commander of the 4th Infantry Division, has announced the retirement of 236 junior and non-commissioned officers (NCOs).

During the pre-retirement documentation ceremony held at the division’s headquarters in Gulu city on September 7, 2024, Brig. Gen. Busizoori urged the retirees to leverage their extensive military experience to foster community development and promote peace and prosperity.

He also encouraged them to continue serving their communities in new capacities and emphasized the importance of personal conduct.

“You have been leaders commanding forces; go home and contest for local council positions since you are patriotic, disciplined, and tested leaders,” Brig. Gen. Busizoori said.

Brig Gen. Busizoori cautioned them against vices such as alcohol abuse, which could tarnish their hard-earned reputation.

He urged the retirees to embrace their leadership skills to guide their communities out of poverty and avoid becoming sources of trouble.

The Division Commander also provided practical advice regarding the retirees’ financial futures. He recommended that they invest their retirement packages wisely in sustainable projects.

“Many of you are going to get a hefty package for the first and last time, so use this package wisely. Avoid dealers for quick money but invest in simple projects like goat farming, growing coffee, or passion fruits,” Brig Gen Busizoori added.

He further reminded the retirees that civilian life would come with new challenges, requiring an adaptation to a mindset of hard work and self-sufficiency.

Busizoori commended them for their dedicated service in combating insurgencies and contributing to national peace and security.

Among those retiring this year are nine captains, 20 lieutenants, and 207 NCOs, many of whom have served in the UPDF for over 30 years.
