The 5th Infantry Division of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has said that ‘Operation Harmony’ continues to make significant progress in maintaining law and order in the region.

The operation, which is conducted in coordination with local authorities and other security agencies, is in line with Presidential directives concerning the unlawful presence of the Balaalo community in the area.

In a statement released today, Friday July 25, 2025, the UPDF Public Defence Public Information, Maj Gen Felix Kulayigye addressed recent public claims alleging misconduct by security personnel.

The military strongly dismissed these claims as false, arguing that no officer participating in the operation has been arrested.

“All deployed personnel remain fully committed to their duties and are executing their responsibilities with professionalism and impartiality,” Maj Gen Kulayigye said.

He also responded to accusations that certain individuals and groups are deliberately spreading misinformation.

According to UPDF, these false narratives are aimed at inciting ethnic tensions, intimidating security personnel, and misleading the public.

Kulayigye warned that such propaganda undermines public trust and could potentially spark unnecessary conflict.

“All evictions are being conducted peacefully, in consultation with local leaders, and strictly within the boundaries of the law. The security forces remain focused on maintaining public order and preventing violence or unlawful activity,” he said.

Similarly, in addressing legitimate concerns and maintain transparency, the UPDF encouraged citizens to report any grievances through recognized and lawful channels, including local leadership structures and authorized security representatives.

Senior UPDF officers have been stationed at designated collection centers and are working closely with District Security Committees to resolve any issues.
