The Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) party has condemned the government for selling wetlands to foreign investors in the name of boosting industrialization, something that has caused global warming.

This development was confirmed by Sharon Oyat Arach, the party spokesperson, on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at the party offices, when she said that Ugandans are experiencing abnormal heat because most of the wetlands have been occupied by industries.

“The encroachment on wetlands has caused global warming, which is a potential threat to humanity in Uganda and the world at large,” Oyat said.

She, however, called upon Ugandans to forget their political affiliations and converge to plant trees to deal with global warming.

“As Ugandans, we should stop looking at political affiliations because when climate change comes, we are all affected, which is why we are experiencing the heat wave. Let us come together and plant trees,” Oyat said.

“Namanve was a swamp, but it was sold to so-called investors in the name of promoting industrialization; unfortunately, the same investors are operating tax-free,” she added.

Oyat predicted that if people don’t take action, the heat will cause drought, famine, and health complications among people, which will be the end of humanity.

The Uganda Meteorological Authority, however, revealed that Uganda is experiencing high temperatures ahead of heavy rains in March and April 2024.
