Police in Amolatar Repeal Unauthorized Demonstration

The Territorial Police in Amolatar has frustrated an unauthorized demonstration organized by locals in the Namasale area of Amolatar District.

In a police statement on Monday, July 17, 2023, the unauthorized demonstrations stemmed out from protest allegations made by Juliet Katushabe, an administrator of an estate believed to belong to the late Naphtali Kawaki, a former resident of Bungu cell in Namasale Town Council, Amolatar District.

According to the North Kyoga Police Spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, Katushabe claimed ownership of the land, equivalent to 100 acres which was allegedly occupied by Moses Okello from Bungu cell.

“The disputed land has remained vacant since the tribal conflict in 1979. Through her legal representation, Eyotr & Co. Advocates located on Makerere Hill Road, Mirembe House 3rd floor, she wrote to the chairperson of Bungu cell, requesting a meeting with the community members who have occupied the land to engage in a dialogue today July 17, 2023,” Okema said.

However, this proposal did not sit well with the local residents, leading them to organize an unlawful protest while awaiting for the arrival of Juliet Katushabe and her lawyer.

Upon receiving the information, the District Police Commander (DPC) of Amolatar and his team responded to the situation and managed to calm down the agitated locals by engaging with community leaders.

The complainant and her lawyer were warned against visiting the site and were advised to pursue legal recourse through the appropriate courts of law.
