Allan Ssekamatte, one of Uganda’s pioneering sports journalists and analysts, has passed away, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the country’s sports media industry.
Ssekamatte died on April 1, 2026, at Kiruddu Hospital in Kampala after battling heart-related complications, according to colleagues and family sources.
Widely respected for his sharp analysis and engaging storytelling, Ssekamatte rose through the ranks to become Sports Editor at Daily Monitor, where his Saturday columns became a must-read for sports enthusiasts across the country.
His commentary helped shape football discussion during what many regard as the golden era of Ugandan sports broadcasting.
He was also a familiar face on television, especially during the early 2000s when he featured on WBS TV’s popular football programme 442 alongside Mark Ssali and Joseph Kabuleeta. The trio played a key role in elevating sports analysis on Ugandan television.
Throughout his career, Ssekamatte also contributed to KFM, Razor Newspaper, and PML Daily.
He is remembered as a respected analyst, mentor, and influential voice whose contribution helped shape modern sports journalism in Uganda. His passing marks the end of an era in the country’s sports media fraternity.
