The Board of Directors of Uganda Railways Corporation has appointed Benon Kajuna as the new Managing Director of the Corporation. He replaces David Musoke Bulega, who had been acting as Managing Director for over a year.

Kajuna has been serving as the former director of transport in various capacities for 24 years.

His appointment follows a series of interviews conducted last year, which saw him sworn into office on Friday, 31 January 2025, to an administrative post as managing director.

In a formal handover at the Ministry of Works and Transport headquarters, Kajuna handed over the instruments of service to Permanent Secretary Bageya Waiswa.

Kajuna has made a remarkable contribution to Uganda’s transport sector, having served as Director of Transport since 2015.

His leadership and vision have been instrumental in shaping the transport sector, and after 24 years of dedicated service, he now transitions to lead Uganda Railways Corporation.

With 30 years of experience in transport planning and management at national, regional, and international levels, Mr. Kajuna brings a wealth of expertise to his new role.

He holds a Master of Business Administration from the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI) and a Master’s in Economic Policy Management from Makerere University. Additionally, he is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (FCILT).

However, he takes over Uganda Railway Corporation at a critical time when the railway sector is facing multiple challenges. Reports indicate that the recently acquired UGX 48 billion locomotives are incompatible with Uganda’s aging railway infrastructure.

Kajuna’s career spans strategic planning, project management, railway development, operations, and institutional turnaround, positioning him well to drive Uganda Railways towards greater success and efficiency.
