The Uganda Police has cautioned all event organizers to seek clearance from the Inspector General of Police and other regulatory authorities before hosting any event during the upcoming festive season.

Addressing the media and event organizers during the weekly security presser at Police Headquarters Naguru on December 10, 2024, the Uganda Police Spokesperson, Rusoke Kituuma, said that the police will not hesitate to close down any event that does not meet the required security standards, and no event organizer will be forgiven for ignorance.

“You have had enough time, and you need to have applied to the Inspector General of Police for clearance, and you also need to get clearance from other regulatory authorities. If you want to have these events, make sure you get the right clearances,” Kituuma said.

According to Kituuma, event organizers must work together with joint security agencies to ensure that events meet all security requirements.

The police discouraged the carrying of flammable materials that can easily be weaponized to public gatherings as had been witnessed in the past.

This precaution aims to enhance security and prevent incidents similar to past tragedies at large gatherings. Organizers must provide details about the event location, expected attendance, and security measures in place.

To ensure compliance with the new guidelines for event organizers, the Uganda Police Force will implement several measures, including mandatory clearance, monitoring and inspections, and reporting mechanisms.
