Two mobile money thieves have survived being lynched to death by an angry mob in Nakulabye, Kampala.

This incident happened on April 30, 2024, at around 8:30 a.m. in Nakulabye, around Labamba Bar.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect went to one of the mobile money shops and told the mobile money agent if he had a cash float of UGX 300,000 because it was what he wanted to withdraw, which the mobile money agent agreed to.

The eyewitnesses revealed that the suspected robber first asked for UGX 20,000 to pay the boda boda rider who had brought him to that shop, which money he was given, and then went outside, pretending to pay the boda boda rider.

The locals, however, said that the robber just jumped onto the boda boda, and they drove off without paying back the UGX 20,000.

According to the eyewitnesses, when the mobile money agent realized that he had been duped and stolen from, he called for help, to which the nearby boda boda riders responded by chasing him down until he was caught.

‘’We once came to a resolution and decided to always punish thieves in our area because once they are arrested by police, they always come back to steal. So, what we have done is a warning to the other thieves that are planning to do such crimes,’’ one of the eyewitnesses said.

Preliminary information indicates that the duo was caught and badly beaten, and by the time police in Nakulabye came to their rescue, they were unconscious and were bleeding profusely.

Police in Nakulabye said that they will release a statement about this incident after carrying out investigations.
