Soroti City was gripped with shock after the son of veteran politician Captain Mike Mukula, was urgently transferred to Mulago National Referral Hospital over what doctors suspect to be a case of poisoning.
Rodney Akongel, who is contesting as an independent candidate for the Soroti City East parliamentary seat, reportedly collapsed on Monday while in Soroti.
He was quickly rushed to Doctor’s Plaza Clinic, where medical staff worked to stabilise him before recommending immediate evacuation to Kampala for specialised treatment.
Captain Mukula confirmed the incident, telling the press that his son’s condition was “serious” and required urgent medical transfer.
An ambulance later transported Rodney to Mulago, where he was admitted to the VVIP Emergency Ward for further management and close monitoring.
Sources close to the family revealed that Rodney exhibited symptoms consistent with possible poisoning.
Health specialists are working closely to determine the cause of his sudden illness.
