Joint security forces have embarked on the hunt for the suspects that are behind the recent two separate explosives which have occurred in Kampala.

The hunt follows the incident of two Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) that exploded in Kikubamutwe parish (Kabalagala) and another one in Nabweru Kibwa (Nassana municipality), all within Kampala on Saturday night, December  2, 2023.

Col Deo Akiiki, the Deputy Spokesperson of Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) described the two bomb blasts as mechanical timer bombs.

He said that, the IED that exploded in Nabweru was allegedly brought by two young men on Saturday after renting the house for three months and left a bag in the room where the explosion took place.

“The IED that exploded in Kabalagala was left at a veranda of a house on a busy street. In both incidents no body was harmed or killed,” Col Akiiki said.

Col Akiiki noted that, investigations into the incident are ongoing. He urged the public to remain vigilant and security conscious as Christmas and New Year festivals approach.

“The public has also been advised to put in place security measures especially on gatherings i.e Bus/ Taxi Parks, places of worship, discos, parties, lodges and bars. The media is called upon to continue disseminating information and create awareness in the public domain as we fight these terrorists,” Col Akiiki noted.

Security forces have in the recent months embarked on the massive hunt for suspected terrorists that crossed from Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to Uganda resulting from pressure mounted on them by the joint forces in Operation Shujaa being carried out in Eastern DRC.
