DP Asks Government to Release a Supplementary Budget for Expired LCI Elections

Gerald Siranda the Democratic Party (DP) Secretary General who doubles as EALA MP, has asked Cabinet to come up with a supplementary budget request and present it before Parliament.

Sirande made the remarks while addressing journalists on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at City House in Kampala.

According to Siranda, Chairpersons’ offices at both village and parish levels cannot stay vacant for long due to their vital role in the community.

“We are requesting government to bring this supplementary budget so that citizens can receive services through elected leaders of their choice,” Siranda said.

He noted that, it is tiresome to handle the elections separately, adding that, they should be held together with general elections in order to minimize printing and supervising costs during elections.

Recently the Electoral Commission (EC) informed Parliament that they had postponed the LC elections after shortage of funds to organize the exercise country wide. EC wants Shs 59 billion to conduct LCI, LCII, and Women Council elections.

The expiry term of office for LC I and II chairpersons who were elected from July 10, 2018 ended.
