Police in Rukungiri district have arrested six suspects during an intelligence-led operation conducted at a bar along Court Road in Rukungiri municipality.
Preliminary information indicates that the operation was carried out on May 7th, 2026, at around 2:30am after security officers received information about suspicious individuals at the premises.
The Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate identified the suspects as Nayamba Agness, 21, Amazing Jomitom, 18, Asiimwe Ronald, 28, Orikiriza Laban, 34, Sasirabo Ibrahim, a 16-year-old juvenile, and another Asiimwe Ronald aged 19.
According to police, the suspects were allegedly pretending to be customers drinking alcohol while staying at the bar under unclear circumstances.
“The group disguising to be drinking alcohol whereas not were none of the bars and it made the bar owners suspicious hence alerted the police,” Maate said.
Maate noted that police officers responded to the tip-off and arrested the suspects for questioning. He lauded the members of the public for being vigilant.
“On receipt of information, the police immediately swang into action and they were accordingly arrested for questioning. I want to commend the people in that place for the vigilance exhibited that led to the arrest of those suspects,” he noted.
ASP Maate said operations targeting suspicious individuals and criminal activities will continue across the Kigezi region as police strengthen efforts to maintain security and public safety.
