According to Lulume Bayiga, the Executive Chairperson of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) party, since November 2020, and continuing throughout the 2026 electoral cycle, the JDP has recorded an ongoing pattern of state-linked abductions where some security agents in plain clothes or military attire, driving unmarked minibuses, have seized opposition supporters, campaign organizers, polling agents, and civic activists from streets and homes.
The Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate identified the suspects as Nayamba Agness, 21, Amazing Jomitom, 18, Asiimwe Ronald, 28, Orikiriza Laban, 34, Sasirabo Ibrahim, a 16-year-old juvenile, and another Asiimwe Ronald aged 19.
The government has always warned the public to stay away from areas of steep terrain, including areas at the bottom of canyons, land previously burned by wildfires, land that has been modified due to human activity, such as deforestation or construction, and channels along a stream or river.
