Police in Kasangati are investigating the alleged murder of a two-year-old Dartiva Rosaries Kyomuhando following her disappearance and the discovery of a ransom note demanding UGX 10 million.
According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, the child’s disappearance was reported by her mother, Lillian Atukwatse, on October 27th, 2026.
On the morning of October 28th, a ransom note demanding UGX 10 million was reportedly discovered at the mother’s gate, prompting further investigations into the child’s disappearance.
Police subsequently arrested two suspects in connection with the incident.
One of the suspects, identified as Joshua Muhumuza, a pedicurist, reportedly confessed to the crime and led investigators to a maize plantation in Kyetume, Gayaza, where the child’s body was recovered.
The recovery of the body has turned the search for the missing toddler into a suspected murder investigation, with police pursuing the circumstances surrounding her death and the alleged ransom demand.
The two suspects remain at the centre of the ongoing investigation as detectives work to establish the full circumstances of the incident and gather evidence for possible prosecution.
Police have not provided further details about the motive for the alleged killing or the involvement of each suspect.
The incident has raised renewed concerns about child safety and the protection of young children, as investigators continue with inquiries into the tragic death.
