Cheptegei Wins Bronze at World Road Running Championships
Joshua Cheptegei, Uganda’s Olympic and world champion, has won bronze in the men’s half marathon at the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, on Sunday, September 20th, 2026.
Cheptegei set a personal best of 58:26 to finish third in a close race. Andreas Almgren of Sweden won gold in 58:06, setting a new European record. Nicholas Kipkorir from Kenya took silver in 58:11.
Cheptegei’s performance added another major championship medal to his decorated career and marked a significant personal milestone with his new half-marathon best.
Following the race, the Uganda Embassy in Copenhagen, led by H.E. Ambassador Margaret M. Otteskov, hosted Cheptegei and fellow members of Team Uganda to celebrate their participation and his bronze-medal achievement.
Uganda also finished fourth in the men’s team competition, recording an aggregate time of 3:03:17.
