The alleged robbery weapon used to shoot Shana Distributors Ltd employee

Police in Katwe are investigating an incident involving aggravated robbery and murder that occurred on January 18, 2024, at approximately 6p.m. in Ndejje Kibutika Village, Makindye Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District.

In a statement released on January 19, 2024, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Police Spokesperson, stated that employees of Shana Distributors Ltd., Kikuubo, identified as Haruna Galabuzi (driver), Patricia Babirye (salesperson), and Henry Mfitumukiza (offloader), were ambushed by armed assailants during their routine product distribution.

According to Owoyesigyire, the assailants demanded money from them, and due to hesitation from the workers, they resorted to violence.

“Despite warning shots, the assailants shot Babirye Patricia in the leg, subsequently taking approximately UGX20 million from the vehicle,” Owoyesigyire said.

He further said that as the victims raised an alarm, the criminals fled on a motorcycle with a registration number of UES 820K but were pursued by a group of local residents and riders in Namasuba, leading to the robbers abandoning the motorcycle cyclists.

Owoyesigyire said that after a confrontation by the public, the suspects sustained injuries at the scene but later passed away upon arrival at Mulago Hospital. He further added that the deceased were identified as Mark Bakka and Brian Ssemanda.

The police also recovered identification, voter cards from the suspects, and the alleged robbery weapon as evidence.

“Regrettably, the stolen cash has not been recovered, as it is believed to have been taken by members of the public during the confrontation,“ he stated.

He said that the injured victims are receiving urgent medical attention, and their detailed statements on the incident have been documented.

Owoyesigire said police are committed to providing further updates as the investigation unfolds and urged the public to remain calm and cooperative towards ensuring justice prevails.
