Police in Pader district have in custody a businessman on the allegation of aggravated robbery and attempted murder.
Police have identified the suspect as Clip Atare, a businessman who also deals in Motorcycle Spare Parts along Pajule road, Lagwai B Cell. He is currently being held at Pader CPS to help police in investigations.
Milton Odongo, the Pader Resident District Commissioner (RDC) said that, the arrest stemmed from the robbery incident which occurred on November 19, 2023, along Pajule road in Pader town council in which a one Boniface Moro, 32, a businessman dealing in Motorcycle Spare Parts and Repairs was attacked and reportedly shot with several bullets.
The RDC said that, Moro, the proprietor of Moro and Bonny Enterprise sustained injuries on his arms, adding that, security has embarked on the hunt for more suspects.
It is alleged that on November 19, 2023, at 7:30pm, the victim Moro was together with a friend called Linnet in his Motor Spare Parts Shop along Pajule road, Pader town council in Pader district, two unknown assailants armed with an AK-47 attacked and put the two shop occupants aimed at him with the gun while ordering Moro to give them money, but the victim said that he had already banked the money.
“Immediately the Assailant shot Bullets, one who was not armed picked a Bag containing Laptop, NIN, ATM card and cash of Ugx 26,000. As they were withdrawing from the shop, Moro Boniface tried to push the door and close, the robbers further shot back at him injuring both arms then they fled off to unknown destinations. I was informed immediately and I instructed Police to act immediately. Upon reaching, they rescued the life of the victim and took him to a nearby health center for First Aid, and later transferred to Kitgum Referral Government Hospital for treatment and is responding to treatment,” RDC Odongo said.
He noted that, the suspects could be well trained in the gun operations since they covered the AK-47 with Mosquito Nets so that the Cartridges do not remain behind.
“In conclusion, the arrest of Atare Clip and others still at large is intelligence based on information given by the victim and other members of the community NOT on any Political Party grounds as being alleged,” Odongo noted.
He called upon the people of Pader district to remain calm as Police continues with investigations, not confuse the work of security.
