NUP CELEBRATES SIX YEARS, KYAGULANYI PROMISES TO COME BACK HOME SOON

“We have lost many who have never been seen like Kibalama, many of our comrades have been arrested and tortured and have spent six years in prison and many continue to be detained like Alex Waiswa, Olivia Lutaaya, Doreen Kaija and others. I want to request you to reject the diversions and divisions and there is no turning back we have to sail on and victory is in sight and we are closer to victory, don't give up,” Kyagulanyi added.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) party President Robert Kyagulanyi has promised party members and supporters that his days for exile wont be long as he will come back home soon.

Kyagulanyi made these remarks on July 22nd, 2026, in a recorded video message played for party leaders, supporters and members of the press at Makerere Kavule as NUP celebrated six years of existence.

In his message Kyagulanyi thanked party supporters and leaders for being resilient and promised them that the days of the current regime are numbered and while in exile he is not seated but busy doing whatever he can to cause change in Uganda.

“I want to salute all the leaders who are still holding fort and keeping the party running from my end am not seated and am pressing all the buttons and the diaspora has always played a big role in pressing for the change of the regime and won’t be long before things fall apart,” Kyagulanyi said.

Kyagulanyi also commended all party supporters who have been arrested and some tortured and asked all party members not to give up on the struggle for things will get worse before they get better.

The National Unity Platform Spokesperson who also doubles as the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi tasked the party supporters to keep demanding for accountability from all leaders at all levels if the party is to continue shining.

“We thank God for the highs and the lows because all that has made us resilient. Let us be leaders with a difference in parliament and in council and please keep holding us accountable,” Ssenyonyi noted.

The party Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya appreciated the NUP leadership and party supporters for the six years of resilience amidst all challenges.

“Special thanks to Robert Kyagulanyi and all leaders of NUP for the support of the party both financially and otherwise, all supporters and foot soldiers who have in any way or the other supported the struggle. Today we are here to celebrate the 6 years of grief, sorrow and happiness for what we have gone through and we have not given up amidst all challenges,” Rubongoya noted.

As NUP celebrates six years, The party Vice president for Buganda Muwanga Kivumbi’s where about remain unknown as he was recently re arrested after being given bail on terrorism charges, other party supporters have on many occasion been denied bail for charges of Unlawful drilling and inciting violence.
