President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Tuesday 24 February, 2026, met the High Command of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) at State House in Entebbe to review the country’s security situation and set priorities for his new term of office.

President Museveni, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the UPDF, chaired the closed-door meeting attended by top army commanders.

The meeting focused on strengthening national stability and improving Uganda’s defence readiness in response to changing security challenges in the region.

Officials said the discussions reviewed the current security situation and assessed the army’s readiness to respond to emerging threats, while aligning military plans with the government’s broader national agenda.

The President praised the Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as well as senior commanders and other officers, for their discipline and professionalism in carrying out their duties.

“I thank the CDF and all officers and men of the UPDF and commend them for their discipline, professionalism, and commitment to protecting Uganda’s peace and sovereignty. Our stability depends on vigilance, unity, and patriotism,” President Museveni said during the meeting.

He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening defence capacity, noting that a secure environment is necessary to support Uganda’s social and economic development.

The High Command meeting comes at a time of continued security concerns in the region, especially in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with authorities stressing that maintaining peace is key to Uganda’s development and stability in Africa.
