Museveni Honors Fallen Liberation Heroes, Urges Busoga to Work for Wealth

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Wednesday, 19th November 2025, delivered a powerful and emotional address in Mayuge district as he paid tribute to fallen liberation comrades. The president also rallied Busoga residents to embrace wealth creation as the NRM pushes to consolidate national progress.

Speaking to thousands of energized supporters at Mayuge District Headquarters, the NRM presidential flagbearer dedicated a solemn moment to remember bush war fighters who lost their lives 52 years ago when Idi Amin’s soldiers attacked the liberation camp at Kiterera, Mayuge.

Museveni said the memories of their bravery remain a cornerstone of the peace and stability Uganda enjoys today.

He described the NRM government as a dependable guardian of peace and a proven promoter of development, urging residents to use this stability to work for household wealth.

“Our message has been on how to promote wealth, everyone should work for wealth,” Museveni emphasized, reminding the community that prosperity begins at family level.

President Museveni alongside other NRM leaders after receiving several NUP supporters who had defected to the ruling NRM party in Namayingo district on Wednesday.

The President highlighted major NRM achievements in Mayuge, ranging from roads and schools to health facilities, noting ongoing upgrades that will further transform public services.

He cited the Busita–Mayuge–Namayingo–Lumino–Busia road as a shining example of protected gains. Once a violent battlefield, the route has been rebuilt into a smooth tarmacked corridor vital for trade, transport, and cross-border economic activity.

He narrated how his colleague’s quick action forced the attackers to flee while many were killed, adding that such turbulent episodes are now mere history thanks to lasting peace.

The president also commissioned a newly constructed NRM party offices with full support from the area leaders.

While addressing supporters in Namayingo earlier in the day, Museveni praised the district’s expanding health infrastructure.

Namayingo now boasts one HCIV and eight HCIIIs, with government committing to upgrade Mutumba and Sigulu to HCIV, and elevate Lugala and Mulombi to HCIII. Buyinja HCIV has received a digital X-ray machine and a dedicated radiologist, while Bukooli South HCIV now has four doctors and a functional ambulance.

On education, the district has 84 government and 129 private primary schools, a sign of ongoing investment in human capital.

The President also encouraged households to adopt the Four-Acre Model to transition from subsistence to prosperity, allocating land to coffee, fruits, food crops, and pasture, with opportunities for livestock, poultry, piggery, and fish farming.

NRM First National Vice Chairperson Al-Haji Moses Kigongo called for unity and discipline among leaders, warning against divisive politics. First Deputy Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga applauded Namayingo residents for their consistent support to the NRM and urged them to stay committed to development.
