President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has warned against oversleeping, citing it as the reason why some Ugandans are still poor.
While touring farms started by the beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model (PDM) in Lango on Tuesday, 27th January, 2025, President Museveni said that despite his repeated messages to promote wealth creation in Uganda over the years, several families are still living outside the money economy.
On Tuesday, 22nd January, 2025, President Museveni kicked off his tour of the Lango sub region to assess the implementation of PDM and wealth creation, where he visited the farm of Rose Akoi Eastern Ward A in the Kole town council, Kole District.
Akoi received Shs1 million from the PDM in 2023 and used it to buy pigs and goats which have successfully multiply.
The President also supported Akoi’s farm with Shs15 million and offered to construct a borehole at Akoi’s home.
Akoi, a mother of three, said she will use the money to expand her farm, which is currently sitting on about half an acre.
In Amach town council, Lira District President Museveni offered Shs15 million to a PDM beneficiary, Vicky Apio, and a mother of eight.
Apio, who got PDM money in 2024, said she used part of the money to start her sheep rearing farm and maize growing.
The president further directed the State House controller, Jane Barekye, to ensure that two boreholes are drilled at the homes of Apio and Akoi, respectively, to support their farms.
On Wednesday, 29th January 2025, President Museveni will preside over the groundbreaking ceremony of the construction of Akii Bua Olympic Stadium in Lira town and later the Lango leaders meeting in Kwania district.
