MARTYRS’ DAY: Bishop Ozelle Urges Youth to Embrace Purposeful Living

“Once you do good to others, the Lord will reward you. Don’t stop doing good it’s the only secret to lifetime achievements. Embrace hard work and fear the Lord,” said Bishop Ozelle.

As thousands gather to commemorate the Uganda Martyrs, the Rt. Rev. Pons Awinjo Ozelle, Bishop of the Diocese of Nebbi, has called on young people to embrace purposeful and morally upright lifestyles in order to achieve lasting success in life.

Bishop Ozelle made the appeal during a special sermon at the youth pilgrimage conference held at the Namugongo Anglican Shrine, one of the key events leading up to this year’s Martyrs’ Day celebration, scheduled for June 3rd.

Addressing hundreds of youthful pilgrims, the bishop emphasized the power of consistent goodness and hard work, urging the youth to never tire of doing good.

“Once you do good to others, the Lord will reward you. Don’t stop doing good it’s the only secret to lifetime achievements. Embrace hard work and fear the Lord,” said Bishop Ozelle.

He further reminded the attendees of God’s unwavering and unconditional love, which, he said, surpasses all fear, pain, and failure.

The conference featured soul-stirring performances from St. John’s Secondary School in Wakiso District. Their rendition of the song “Golola Omukono Gwo Yesu” (Lift Up Your Hand, Jesus) moved the crowd, reinforcing the message of trusting in Christ and imitating His goodness.

This year’s celebration also marks the 140th anniversary of the Uganda Martyrs, held under the theme: “A Young Generation That Imitates God’s Goodness.”

By Thursday, May 29, 2025, more than 22,000 pilgrims had already arrived at Namugongo, reflecting the continued significance and devotion surrounding this national and spiritual event.
