The Inspectorate of Government has announced the dismissal of 25 parish chiefs in Kyenjojo District for submitting forged diploma certificates to secure their positions.
Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe, the Deputy Inspector General of Government, issued the directive on August 14, 2024, following a thorough investigation conducted by the Inspectorate’s Fort Portal Regional Office.
“The Chief Administrative Officer of Kyenjojo District has been instructed to remove these officials from the payroll immediately, “Muhairwe said.
According to Muhairwe, the investigation uncovered that the dismissed officials had presented fake diplomas allegedly from several reputable institutions, including Uganda Pentecostal University, Kyambogo University, and Makerere University, among others.
However, all of these universities have since disowned the documents, stating they have no records of the individuals involved.
“This development raises serious concerns about the qualifications of public servants and the processes in place for verifying academic credentials, “Muhairwe added.
The Inspectorate of Government emphasized the importance of maintaining ethical standards in public service and has called for further investigations into the matter.
Plans for potential prosecution of the involved parties are also underway, as the Inspectorate seeks to hold accountable those who undermine the integrity of public office.
The inspectorate said the incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and accountability within government institutions.
