Even though Burora has on many occasions mocked torture victims and dismissed illegal arrests and kidnaps, he deserves a fair hearing.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) Party President, Robert Kyagulanyi, has condemned the arrest and remand of the former Rubaga deputy Resident District Commissioner (RCC), Herbert Anderson Burora.

While addressing the press at the party headquarters in Makerere Kavule on July 5, 2024, Kyagulanyi said that even though Burora has on many occasions mocked torture victims and dismissed illegal arrests and kidnaps, he deserves a fair hearing.

“As NUP, we condemn the arrest of Burora. We may not agree on what he says, does, or believes, but we want him to have the freedom and justice that he has always denied the people of Uganda in the past,” Kyagulanyi said.

The NUP President also called for the immediate release of Burora, saying that the NUP adds its voice to the many activists calling for the release of the former Rubaga deputy RCC.

“Because we believe that nobody should be subjected to the lawlessness in Uganda, we add our voice in calling for his release and a fair hearing,” Kyagulanyi added.

The former Rubaga deputy RCC was arrested on July 2, 2024, and produced in court on July 3, 2024, where he was charged with spreading malicious information against the person of the speaker, Anita Among. He was then remanded to Luzira Prison until July 9, 2024, when he will be brought back to court.

Burora’s woes started with being sacked from the office of the deputy RCC for Rubaga division after he started an online campaign against corruption, especially against the Speaker of Parliament, whom Burora accuses of being corrupt and extravagant.
