The Family Division of the High Court is this afternoon, June 23, 2023, expected to decide on the burial place for the former Supreme Court Justice Stella Arach-Amoko, a matter that had posthumously divided her family.
The widower, Ambassador James Amoko wants the body buried at his home in Adjumani. However, three children that Justice Arach got before her marriage to the diplomat with whom she has no biological child have asked court to order that their mother be buried on Jukia Hill Ward, Juba Village in Nebbi district which they say was her wish.
In an application filed on Thursday, June 22, 2023, the trio (Annette Yossa, Jackie Amony and Emmanuel Komakech her biological children) and two of the deceased’s siblings (Christine Onyok and Godfrey Picho) also want court to cancel the original plan to bury the Judge in Adjumani.
The trio also requested that if done, court should authorize them to exhume the body for burial in Nebbi later on.
The respondents in the case that is before Justice Ketra Katunguka are the Attorney General and Ambassador Amoko.
” It is hereby ordered and agreed as follows; the application shall be served on the respondents by 10:00 am this morning), the respondents shall file their response by 12:30 pm (today), the matter fixed for hearing at 3:30pm (today) and the matter shall proceed by oral testimony,” the order signed by Justice Katunguka read in part.
Efforts to reach the Attorney General for a comment remain futile.
The body of the deceased is still lying at a funeral home as a new burial program will be decided once the dissenting parties resolve their differences.
Lady Justice Stella Arach-Amoko breathed her last on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala.
