I don’t Blame Corrupt Officials because they are Just Implementers—Dr. Besigye

The public should blame the queen of corruption in the State House, not the innocent legislators.

The former President of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party, Col (Rtd) Dr. Kizza Besigye, has said that he doesn’t have the authority to blame and crucify the legislators who have been implicated in the corruption scandals because they are all innocent.

According to Besigye, the implicated legislators are just implementing a system that was constructed by their supreme leader, President Museveni.

“I will never blame the corrupt officials. These are conduits of a wicked system that was created by the executive headed by President Museveni,” Besigye said.

While addressing the members of the press at Katonga Road in Kampala on Monday, July 8, 2024, Besigye said that the public should blame the queen of corruption in the State House, not the innocent legislators.

“It is time for every Ugandan to raise and say enough is enough to the queen of corruption in the State House because you have to kill the queen bee to thaw the beehive,” he said.

Besigye noted that the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has failed to stamp out corruption in the country because it has categorized it into two types: official corruption and private corruption, which is why the president has captured every government institution, such as the parliament, to trade corruption in peace.

However, President Museveni has since described corruption in Uganda as being perpetrated by three kinds of people, including dishonest, traitors, and mistake-makers. In his view, traitors and dishonest people have been more corrupt because they take bribes from foreigners to promote their interests in the country.

Additionally, President Museveni has continued to re-echo his threats against the corrupt, telling the nation that his government is going to crush those who plunder national resources.

The talk about corruption, with a lot of allegations pointing at top government officials, has dominated social media and, to some extent, mainstream media spaces in recent times.
