An elderly woman is in critical condition after unidentified thugs attacked her in the wee hours of December 20, 2024.
70-year-old Scholastica Namuli, a widow to Karoli Lubowa, was attacked and brutally hacked in Busowe village, Kirumba sub-county, Kyotera district.
According to Rafiki Kyazze, a local in Busobwe village, on his way to the Masaka taxi stage at around 4:00 am, he heard a lady screaming, and this prompted him to call for help, and other locals came to her rescue.
Kyazze added that when they tried to catch these assailants, they escaped and left behind a boda boda registration number, UEW 797B.
’’Namuli is in a very critical condition, and this is the second attempt on her life this year, which is so worrying and disturbing.’’ Kyazze said.
The LC I Chairman of Busobwe village, John Bukenya, confirmed the incident and said that the local leaders were going to do their best and work with police to find out who owns the boda boda that was left behind and why they attacked Namuli.
Bukenya added that nothing was taken from Namuli’s house, which shows that they were after her life only and not property.
’’Police investigations are underway, and even the boda boda that was used by the assailants was taken by Kirumba police as an exhibit to aid in the police investigations,’’ Bukenya said.
Namuli is currently admitted at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital in a critical condition but under better medical assistance.
In 2024, Kyotera District has witnessed a series of alarming machete attacks that have raised concerns among residents and local authorities.
On September 23, 2024, Joseph Bukenya and Susan Namukasa were brutally murdered by machete-wielding assailants in Bukomansimbi District. The attack was reportedly connected to ongoing land disputes, highlighting the dangerous consequences of such conflicts in the region.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers set Bukenya’s house on fire before ambushing the couple as they fled.
