He confirmed that candidates may hold post-nomination rallies but only in line with EC and security guidelines. The NRM has booked Kololo Airstrip for its event, FDC will rally in Butabika, and NUP will gather in Nateete.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has released strict guidelines for the upcoming presidential nominations, which will be conducted at the Commission’s new offices in Lubowa, along Lweza–Kigo Road.

Addressing journalists at the venue on Monday, September 22, 2025, EC Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama said nominations will be held on Tuesday, September 23, and Wednesday, September 24, 2026. He appealed to all aspirants and their supporters to maintain peace and discipline.

“We want a peaceful process. Candidates and their supporters must remain orderly to ensure smooth nominations,” Byabakama said.

Byabakama revealed that five aspirants have so far been confirmed for nomination. They include President Yoweri Museveni (NRM), Nandala Mafabi (FDC), Robert Kyagulanyi (NUP), Robert Kasibante (NPP), and Elton Joseph Mabirizi. He added that the EC verification team is still processing other applications, and more candidates could be cleared.

Uganda Police spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kitumwa warned candidates against holding processions to and from the nomination venue, stressing that security will strictly enforce the rules.

“A candidate’s convoy must not exceed 20 people, including the candidate. Any form of procession will be stopped. We want a peaceful process without disruption to the public,” Kitumwa said.

He confirmed that candidates may hold post-nomination rallies but only in line with EC and security guidelines. The NRM has booked Kololo Airstrip for its event, FDC will rally in Butabika, and NUP will gather in Nateete.

The presidential nominations officially kick off the 2026 election season, with Ugandans expected to witness a heated contest among major political players.
