Ugandan cricketer Consy Aweko has joined the Elite Club after becoming the 12th woman to reach 100 wickets in T20 internationals played between international members of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The Uganda Cricket Association confirmed the development on their social media page X on March 14, 2024.
“Milestone for the Skipper! Congratulations to Consy Aweko,” the Uganda Cricket Association said.
The East African off-spinner is the second player from an associate nation to achieve the feat, following Thailand’s Boochatham.
Aweko achieved this milestone against South African women during the African Games semi-final match in Accra, Ghana, on March 11, 2024.
Uganda, however, lost the game and went on to play a 3rd place playoff against Nigerian women, who lost the bronze medal match.
Aweko finished with seven wickets from the tournament, her best of 3/20 against Rwanda.
She now has 102 wickets in 74 matches, having the second-best average among all the women who have taken 100 wickets in T20Is. Her career best spell of 4/6 came against Sierra Leone women in Harare in 2019.
Aweko has joined Megan Schutt, Nida Dar, Anisa Mohammed, Ellyse Perry, Shabnim Ismail, Nattaya Boochatham, Katherine Sciver-Brunt, Sophie Devine, Deepti Sharma, and Sophie Ecclestone in the elite group.
