The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, (AUC), HE Mahmoud Ali Youssouf has condemned a deadly drone attack on a United Nations peacekeeping base in Sudan.
In a strongly worded statement issued on 14th December 2025, HE Mahmoud Ali said the attack targeted the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) logistics base in Kadugli, Sudan.
According to him, this action led to loss of life and injuries among a group of Bangladeshi troops serving in a peacekeeping capacity.
“This reprehensible act is a serious affront to international humanitarian law and an assault on all efforts to promote peace and stability in Sudan,” he stated.
However, he emphasized that such attacks on peacekeepers are unacceptable and affect regional and international peace and security.
On behalf of the Union, Youssouf extended sincere condolences to the families of those who lost their lives before offering full solidarity with the affected peacekeeping personnel and their contributing countries.
He called for immediate action in ensuring those responsible for this attack are quickly identified and held accountable.
“The African Union remains steadfast in its commitment to peace, security, and stability in Sudan,” Youssouf noted.
Youssouf reiterated the support of the African Union for efforts towards achieving a permanent and inclusive political solution to this conflict.
