We Have Good Relationship with Kabaka-Kyagulanyi to Supporters

On the day of the coronation, Kyagulanyi and his team were seen in the Bugisu subregion, where he met with the Bamasaba cultural leader in Mbale just a few days before the beginning of this year's Mbalu festival, a key event among the Bamasaba people of eastern Uganda.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) party President, Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi, has assured NUP supporters and Buganda loyalists that, as a party, NUP has a very good relationship with the Mengo establishment.

While addressing party leaders, supporters, and members of the media on August 5, 2024, at the party headquarters at Makerere Kavule, Kyagulanyi felicitated the Kabaka of Buganda on his 31st Coronation anniversary and assured party members that NUP as a party still has a very good relationship with the Kabaka.

“I want to assure you who are worried, that we have a very good relationship with the Kabaka, the traditional leaders and clan heads. We are having a good relationship, and some of us were born Baganda, and we didn’t apply,” Kyagulanyi said.

Kyagulanyi further emphasized that there is a group that wants to misrepresent NUP and its intentions are to make it look like Kyagulanyi is against the Kabaka of Buganda.

“There are some people who want to put me against the Kabaka, and they have tried so much to do that to make me be looked at as if I am against the Kabaka; thereo are those who did it intentionally to misrepresent us so that we can be misunderstood; don’t allow any person to misrepresent us,“ Kyagulanyi added.

Kyagulanyi’s remarks came after a group of people on different social media platforms and radio stations and some online bloggers criticized the NUP president for not attending the 31st Kabaka’s Coronation anniversary celebrations held at Namirembe Cathedral on August 31, 2024.

The event, which was widely attended by leaders from different political parties, businessmen, religious leaders, and so many other opinion leaders, one could easily tell that Kyagulanyi, a once-proclaimed Buganda loyalist, and his top leaders were missing at the Mengo event.

On the day of the coronation, Kyagulanyi and his team were seen in the Bugisu subregion, where he met with the Bamasaba cultural leader in Mbale just a few days before the beginning of this year’s Mbalu festival, a key event among the Bamasaba people of eastern Uganda.
