The Global Tourism Awards celebrate destinations that combine innovation, sustainability, and memorable visitor experiences. The annual event brings together tourism leaders, policymakers, and industry experts from across the world to promote responsible travel that benefits both people and the planet.

Uganda has received another major global recognition after Bwindi Impenetrable National Park was ranked the third-best adventure destination in the world at the Tourism Global Tourism Awards held in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The award places Uganda alongside some of the world’s most iconic natural wonders, with Ancash in Peru and the Galápagos Islands in Ecuador taking first and second place respectively. This recognition highlights Uganda’s growing reputation as a leading adventure destination celebrated for its stunning scenery, rich wildlife, and commitment to sustainable tourism.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor James Kalema, Chairman of the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) Board of Trustees, said the recognition is a strong endorsement of Uganda’s success in conservation and eco-tourism.

“This accolade is a powerful endorsement of Uganda’s commitment to conservation-led tourism. Bwindi shows how protecting nature can create unforgettable adventure experiences while supporting communities and promoting national development,” said Prof. Kalema.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is famous for its mist-covered hills, thick rainforest, and endangered mountain gorillas, which make up nearly half of the world’s remaining gorilla population.

The park’s signature activity, gorilla trekking, is described by many travelers as one of the most moving and thrilling adventures on Earth. Each year, thousands of tourists visit Bwindi to experience this once-in-a-lifetime encounter.

This international award will further raise Uganda’s profile as a top adventure and eco-tourism destination. It reinforces the country’s standing among travelers seeking authentic, nature-based experiences.

Bwindi’s latest achievement is a reflection of Uganda’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable and responsible tourism, positioning the nation not only as the Pearl of Africa but also as a global beacon of adventure and eco-tourism excellence.
