Uganda Media Centre Receives Laptops from NITA-U to Boost Digital Capacity

Kasujja explained that equipping government institutions with modern tools enables them to effectively tell Uganda’s development story and highlight opportunities available to citizens.

Uganda Media Centre has received a consignment of laptops from National Information Technology Authority Uganda (NITA-U) to strengthen digital capacity as Uganda advances towards a digitally-driven economy.

The handover which took place earlier today Thursday, March 26 th, 2026 at Uganda media centre is in line with government’s ongoing efforts to enhance communication, improve information dissemination, and support digital transformation across public institutions.

Receiving the equipment, Uganda Media Centre Executive Director Allan Kasujja said the donation comes at a time when the country is focusing on national development and youth empowerment.

Kasujja explained that equipping government institutions with modern tools enables them to effectively tell Uganda’s development story and highlight opportunities available to citizens.

“The task of national building requires us to expose young people to opportunities and assure them that their future in Uganda is bright if they actively contribute to its development, with these tools now available, we are left with no excuse but to deliver on our mandate efficiently.” Kasujja said.

NITA-U Executive Director Hatwib Mugasa reaffirmed commitment to supporting government agencies through digital infrastructure and capacity building.

He noted that the provision of devices is part of a broader strategy to enhance e-government services, streamline communication, and improve monitoring of government programmes.

“We intend to digitize Uganda by working closely with other government agencies. So far, we have distributed over 1,500 laptops to communication officers under the Ministry of ICT and nearly 2,000 to various government offices,” Mugasa said

Mugasa added that NITA-U is also exploring ways to expand access to affordable smart devices, particularly in rural areas, to ensure inclusivity in the country’s digital transformation agenda.

Kasujja linked the initiative to Uganda’s long-term development vision, saying that effective communication will be key in achieving the government’s target of growing the economy to 500 billion dollars by 2040.

The State Minister, Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Hon Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga informed the public of the Chief-level Executives (CIO-CxO) Conclave 2026 expo, a high-level gathering slated for April 24 at the National ICT Hub under the theme, “The CIO as a Business Strategist.”

He said that the forum as a critical platform to strengthen digital leadership and align institutional performance with Uganda’s broader development agenda under the Fourth National Development Plan (NDP IV).
