The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has urged African militaries to prioritize unity and cooperation, emphasizing that collective action is crucial for regional stability and the continent’s progress.
Speaking on Friday, March 21, at the Rwanda Defense Force Command and Staff College (RDFCSC) in Nyakinama, Musanze District, in Rwanda, Gen Kainerugaba highlighted that regional conflicts and underdevelopment remain significant barriers to military cooperation in Africa.
“Collaboration delivers the best outcomes, as each country brings its unique strengths and capabilities,” he said.
The UPDF CDF urged senior officers to look beyond national interests and emphasized mechanisms like regional cooperation, human security, and strengthening partnerships with Africa’s traditional allies.
He noted that cooperation not only helps prevent conflicts but also promotes economic development through reduced military expenditures.
Gen Kainerugaba also commended the diverse representation of African nations among the student officers, emphasizing the need for African-led solutions to the continent’s challenges.
“A cooperative approach that prioritizes unity and mutual progress is the best path forward,” he noted.
During his visit, he toured the RDFCSC facilities, received a briefing on their operations, and was accompanied by his Rwandan counterpart, General Mubarakh Muganga.
His visit follows a previous engagement in August 2024, where he and Gen Muganga discussed strengthening military cooperation between Uganda and Rwanda.
By advocating for collaboration and African-led solutions, he underscores the role of collective security and strategic partnerships in ensuring regional stability and progress.
