Uganda Airlines and Air India have officially launched an interline partnership that promises to transform air travel between Africa and the Indian subcontinent.
The agreement, which became effective on 25th August, 2025, links the networks of Uganda’s national carrier with India’s leading global airline, providing passengers with smoother travel and expanded global connectivity.
The partnership, announced on Wednesday, 17th September, 2025, allows travelers to book a single ticket combining flights from both airlines, simplifying the booking process and streamlining connections.
Passengers flying with Uganda Airlines from Entebbe International Airport (EBB) can now seamlessly connect to Air India flights in Mumbai (BOM), opening access to over 25 major destinations across India, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Kolkata.
Beyond India, the interline arrangement enables Ugandan travelers to reach key international hubs such as London Heathrow, Singapore, Bangkok, Colombo, and Dhaka, all through a single booking.
The benefits extend to Air India as well, granting Indian and Asian passengers convenient access to Uganda and the wider African market.
Through Uganda Airlines’ network, travelers can reach major African destinations including South Africa, Nigeria, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Zambia.
Jennifer Bamuturaki, the Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Airlines, described the partnership as a strategic milestone.
“This interline agreement provides our customers with a smooth, single-ticket travel experience to dozens of new destinations, strengthening economic and cultural ties between our regions,” the Uganda Airlines CEO explained.
Air India’s Chief Commercial Officer, Nipun Aggarwal, expressed excitement about the partnership, emphasizing its role in enhancing connectivity between Africa and India.
“Partnering with Uganda Airlines is an exciting step in enhancing travel between India and Africa,” Aggarwal said. “We look forward to welcoming Uganda Airlines’ passengers to explore the full breadth of Air India’s routes across India and beyond.”
The interline deal represents a practical step for both carriers. For the revived Uganda Airlines, it expands its global reach without the immediate need to launch new routes. For Air India, which has been under Tata Sons’ ownership since 2022, it strengthens its footprint in the growing African market, offering passengers more travel options and seamless connections.
By offering seamless connections, expanded networks, and greater convenience for passengers, the collaboration is set to boost tourism, trade, and cultural exchange between the two regions, while strengthening the growth plans of both airlines.
