UETCL Growth Signals Uganda’s Rising Industrial Expansion- Min Nankabirwa

UETCL recorded a 9.3 percent increase in revenue from energy sales, reaching UGX 1,672.8 billion, up from UGX 1,530.0 billion the previous year.

Uganda’s push toward industrialisation is rising, with new performance figures from the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) pointing to a steady rise in energy demand driven by economic activity.

Speaking at the company’s 17th Annual General Meeting for the Financial Year 2024/2025, yesterday, Wednesday, 26th March 2026.

Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, showed the encouraging results that reflect both corporate progress and broader national growth.

UETCL recorded a 9.3 percent increase in revenue from energy sales, reaching UGX 1,672.8 billion, up from UGX 1,530.0 billion the previous year.

Electricity sales volumes also grew by 11.8 percent to 6,745.08 GWh, while maximum system demand rose to 1,202.9 MW.

“These figures reflect not just corporate performance, but real progress in Uganda’s energy infrastructure,” Nankabirwa said.

“A reliable, expanding transmission network is the backbone of our industrialisation agenda and our commitment to universal access to electricity,” she added.

The rising electricity consumption is widely seen as a proxy for economic expansion, particularly in manufacturing, construction, and services sectors that depend heavily on stable power supply.

Increased peak demand suggests that more businesses, factories, and urban centers are coming online and consuming electricity at higher levels.

The AGM brought together key government officials, including Finance Minister Matia Kasaija, State Minister for Energy Sidronius Okaasai Opolot, and Permanent Secretary Irene Bateebe, showing the strategic importance of the energy sector in Uganda’s development agenda.

UETCL Board Chair Kwame Ejalu reaffirmed the company’s commitment to strengthening transmission infrastructure to meet growing demand and support future investments.

Nankabirwa commended the board and management for maintaining focus amid rising demand pressures.

“We are building the Uganda we want, one megawatt at a time,” she said.

Analysts say the upward trend in electricity sales and demand signals a positive outlook for

With demand now above 1,200 MW, UETCL’s performance shows the energy sector as a key driver of Uganda’s industrial transformation.
