Theodore Ssekikubo, the Head Mover of the Censure Motion against Four Parliamentary Commissioners, has refuted claims of dropping the motion, saying he has come a long way for him to just drop it.
Ssekikubo made the remarks during a media interview at Parliament, where he revealed that there are few remaining signatures for the censure to be moved.
“We are going to assess whether we should wait for the MPs to sit and later hold a meeting with the MPs who gave us their signatures or determine the way forward. But the remaining 6-7 signatures cannot make me drop a motion when I have already collected 169 signatures. We have gone through difficulty with this motion, and it is what inspires us to move on,” Ssekikubo asserted.
He revealed that many MPs are running away from their constituencies the moment they get word of his team arriving in their areas to collect signatures.
Ssekikubo also decried the delay by Speaker Among to respond to his request for transportation to collect signatures and wondered why it has taken the Speaker 9 days to respond to their letter.
“We wrote to the Clerk to Parliament requesting for a vehicle and the Clerk wrote back to us, saying the Speaker is to determine the means of transport, since we are in
recess. Then on Tuesday, we wrote to the Speaker, but since then she hasn’t responded. This is baffling because we are in the course of doing our rightful duty,” Ssekikubo said.
The motion seeking to censure the four commissioners over their role in the Shs1.7 billion service reward has been running since May, 2024. The commissioners in question include Mathias Mpuuga, Solomon Silwany, Prossy Akampurira, and Esther Afoyochan.
