The South African Grammy-award-winning singer and songwriter Tyla Laura Seethal has said that she canceled all her international tour dates and festival performances due to an injury.
The 22-year-old singer announced the news on her social media account, Instagram, on March 8, 2024, expressing her heartbreak to fans whom she often refers to as her Tygers.
“My Tygers, all of you know that this moment you have all helped me transform into a reality has been a lifelong dream. I am so grateful and humbled by this past year and the way it has changed my life. I can never thank you guys enough for all your loving support, all the joy, the laughter, and the wins,” Tyla wrote.
In a heartfelt message, the Johannesburg-born songbird said that she has been battling with a hidden injury for the past year, noting that despite consulting specialists, the pain has escalated and that continuing the tour would endanger her long-term health.
While blocked by the setback at such an important point in her career, she promised her fans a breathtaking show upon her recovery.
“As much as this is something I would rather have dealt with privately, it’s important that I share what I have to share with you today. For the past year, I’ve been silently suffering from an injury that has tragically worsened. I’ve seen doctors and specialists with high hopes, but the pain has only become more agonizing, as has the severity of the situation. So please know that my team and I are working diligently on a spectacular show for you as soon as I am recovered and ready to return safely onstage this summer,” Tyla noted.
The UK and European tour, which includes stops in Oslo, Stockholm, Berlin, and London, were rescheduled, while she has been forced to cancel the North American tour totally, which includes her highly anticipated Coachella debut.
Tyla revealed that, never the less, the ticket holders for the North American tour will be refunded, while other affected territories will receive guidance from their ticket providers.
“For North American headline dates, your tickets will automatically be refunded; for all other territories, you will be contacted by your ticket provider regarding options. Please keep a lookout for new dates and information. Thank you, Tygers, for understanding,” she stated.
Tyla signed with Epic Records in 2021 after the domestic success of her 2019 debut single, Getting Late, featuring Kooldrink.
She rose to international fame with the release of her 2023 single Water, which entered the top ten in sixteen countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States.
Water was the first song by a South African soloist to enter the US Billboard Hot 100 in 55 years, and it was awarded the inaugural Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance in 2024. Her self-titled debut album is scheduled for release on March 22, 2024. She has also earned nominations for a BRIT Award, a Soul Train Music Award, a MOBO Award, and two South African Music Awards.
She is known for her songs like Water, Truth or Dare, On and On, Been Thinking, Getting Late, Butterflies, Girl Next Door,To Last, Girls Need Love, Amawele, Overdue, and many more
