The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has begun a tour to meet coffee farmers in Ssingo County, Kiboga District.
His visit started on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the home of the Bishop of Mityana, Ssalongo James Bukomeko.
The event gathered religious leaders, politicians, and other community members.
During his speech, the Katikkiro encouraged religious leaders to motivate their followers to work hard and earn a living, while also praying to God for blessings.
He stressed that people should not expect success or blessings without effort.
“It is wrong for someone to think they can just sleep in a place of worship and receive blessings without working. God helps those who help themselves,” Katikkiro Mayiga said.
He warned religious leaders against discouraging hard work and cautioning the people to avoid following such leaders.
During the event, Bishop Ssalongo James Bukomeko urged the government to support coffee farmers by ensuring coffee prices remain high.
He also encouraged farmers to focus on producing quality coffee and to work diligently to overcome poverty.
The Katikkiro’s tour aims to support and inspire coffee farmers in Ssingo County, a key region for Uganda’s coffee industry, which plays an important role in the country’s economy and the livelihoods of many families.
